Firstly, I am a total noobie, so please go easy on me. And sorry for hijacking mitchell9894s thread...
Quick background. Many years ago when I was a teenage, my uncle had a handheld portable police scanner that he would bring over when he would visit my Dad. Myself and my brother would listen to it (the RNC) and we loved it. I literally just remembered about it a couple of weeks ago and wanted to replicate that. Of course, I immediately went to the iTunes store, and downloaded two police scanner apps and neither one of them had any coverage for St. John's (RNC).
So I did some quick Google searched and found this forum! I read mitchell9894 thread (rcmp,avalon, nl) and an old thread by hondaus90 (in 2011) and it appears that listening to the RNC in St. John's isn't an option?
I am basically coming to you fine folks to see if someone like myself (noobie, no radio experience, etc), can even listen to the RNC on a handheld police scanner? Is this even possible with their frequencies?
If so, can this be listened to on an "affordable" scanner I can pick up on ebay or something, or will this require hundreds of dollars of investment? Again, I would certainly pay a little bit of money to listen (if this was possible), but I am not going to invest a lot (esp. if I can't listen to a reliable stream.
