Here's my 2002 Chevrolet Impala. She just surpassed 82,000 miles, so she's starting to get up there. I need to take her in for a tune up here soon, else she might start to get a little crabby on me.
Here's what she used to have:
A large, overprized piece of steel. Jottodesk, with some big Kenwood radios. After a while, I decided I needed to be a little more covert, and shrink stuff down.
After some drilling and running of new wiring, here's what we have:
VHF 1/4 and UHF 1/4 on the trunk. The UHF will be replaced sometime this fall when I move to an area that doesn't use UHF for hardly anything. I'll swap it out with a dual band ham radio and replace the UHF radio inside. Both are Antennex trunk-lip mounts.
Here's my little console. It's one of those generic one-size-fits-most consoles for $40. It looks so much neater and smaller then that massive Jottodesk. I just tapped four screws into the heating/ac tubing under the floor.
The top radio is a ICOM F-621 UHF, and the bottom is a F-521 VHF. I love these radios to death; save for their lack of "on the scan list" icon on the display.
Above the mirror, I have a dual LED Whelen Talon. Next week, I'll be installing a pair of TIR3's on the rear license plate. Other plans include adding remote speakers under the seats to split the audio sounds; replacing the UHF with a dual band ham rig once that is needed; GPS on the dash, and other random things to come I'm sure.
