Littleton 3rd Alarm | 5280FIRE
March 30th – On Monday afternoon Littleton & South Metro Firefighters were dispatched to a reported multi-family dwelling fire at 5425 South Federal Circle. First arriving Engine 11 reported light smoke showing from a 3 story apartment building, assumed command, pulled a line to the first floor and established a water supply. Engine 13 was assigned to check for extension on the 2nd floor and Squrt 12 to the charlie side for aerial operations. Battalion Chief 1 positioned on a alpha side and assumed command. Engine 11 completed a primary search, quickly knocked a first floor bathroom & utility room fire and found vertical extension. Companies reported heavy smoke conditions and heat on the second floor above the fire unit. With all hands working and fire extension being found, Command transmitted a 2nd Alarm with Level 2 Staging on Federal Blvd north of Berry Avenue. Engine 14 was the first arriving company on the 2nd Alarm and assumed Staging Officer on a separate radio channel. Battalion Chief 32 was assigned Charlie Division with Safety 33 and Training 10 was assigned Alpha Division with Safety 12. Tower 32 laddered the roof from the Bravo / Charlie corner, Squrt 12 established a second water supply on the Charlie side and supplied Engine 40. Additional lines were stretched to the Charlie side apartments and extension was found in the bathrooms.
Smoke was seen on the roof line and from vent pipes extending toward the Bravo side – opposite side of the original fire units. Tower 32 opened up the roof, companies made entry and determined the fire extended laterally in a large void between the 2nd & 3rd floors all the way the Bravo end units. The fire then traveled vertically through the pipe chases. Multiple special calls were made for additional resources bringing mutual aid from Englewood, South Metro & West Metro. Extensive overhaul was needed and fire was found in every unit on the second & third floors. After several hours the fire was declared out. All searches proved negative, several pets were safely rescued, no injuries were reported and investigators were on scene. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
