LITTLETON – Many people driving on C-470 saw an apartment fire as it raged just south of the highway at Quebec on Wednesday afternoon.
The Littleton Fire Department says the three-alarm fire broke out at the Palomino Park Apartment complex just after 2 p.m.
The flames burned about four of the eight units in one building, according to fire crews.
One firefighter suffered heat-related injuries, but authorities say he will be OK. No other injuries were reported.
A construction crew across the street from the apartment complex saw the fire and jumped the fence into the complex.
They started knocking on doors and yelling at people to get out of their homes.
"Can't sit around and see people get hurt for no reason," said Jason Coberly.
"It was just shooting a flame across the patio," said Armando Dergado.
Investigators say there is no word yet on what caused the fire, but they are looking into the possibility of a barbecue on a patio.
