The Livingston County Sheriff is still on VHF FM. I can hear them clearly all the way up to north east Rochester. They are on NFM, so they meet all regulation that I know of that is coming up. Anyone care to speculate, or have any information on, if they will move to a digital (P25) system in the near future? I kind of hope they don't.

My perspective is that the VHF FM seems to work well for them. I don't see the benefits of P25. But I'm no expert. I'm sure it makes sense in other areas, but what about LC?

I would be surprised if they went to a P25 or even a different flavor trunking system.

I am only up in Mt Morris about 1 or 2 weeks out of the year but every time I listen
to the conventional base stations and repeaters they seem to serve them pretty
well.

Livingston County 155.595 is still wide band. I heard that they may switch to narrow band soon but I just checked their signal with my service monitor and they are still definitely wide band (5 kHz deviation).

Oh, well that is interesting. They'll have to switch to NB but they have some time to do it.

My unofficial source tells me they installed new vehicle radios recently. I would assume they will make the switch to narrow band once all their radios can support it. I would also assume the fact they are installing new radios means they intend to stay on VHF for the immediate future. The KEA535 license is for 11K2F3E (NFM voice) emission so there is no apparent plan to use P25.

I don't have access to any "official" information on what their plans are or the specific types of radios being installed.
