LMR-400 Connector Question

What makes it as hard as I have been reading about installing N or PL-259 Connectors on this feedline? I have only used Beldon 8214 and the origional 9913 for years and have never seen the LMR-400. I am getting ready to order some more feedling so I thought I would ask before I order something. Thanks

I know that the diameter is slightly different and when I first got my LMR400, I ordered the special PL-259's. I didn't have any special problems putting them on, and now I just use what ever PL-259's I have on hand - no problem. Nice coax.

I use PL259s and N's on my LMR400 with no problems. Just prep, screw on, and solder and it's TIGHT!

Thanks guys for the info. I have installed N connectors in the origional 9913 for a long time with good results. Does this 400 have a foam core like RG-8 or is it like the 9931 with the hollow air core center. Thanks

When installing connectors on LMR400 you may need to taper the outer jacket to get the threaded part of the connector started, other than that most typical RG8 style connectors work just fine

I use a tiny tiny dab of silicone grease on the outer jacket just as I start to thread the connector on the coax. It helps ease the pain and probably helps seal it too. But just a tiny bit about the size of a letter O.

If you plan to use N type connectors, you can use the same connector as the Belden 9913. I have been using a crimp style N with LMR-400 for years with excellent results and longevity in the 900MHz band
