As I stated, the frequency in question is listed in the TAFL database and is licensed in different locations across Canada. Perhaps it's a common frequency then for LoJack frequencies.

173.0750 is the USA Freq, not sure about other North American locations.
Other countries have their own Frequency [90% of them VHF High]

And a question, what does one here on the LoJack freuqency anyways when it's activated? just a series of beeps? Telemetry?

You will hear the Telemetry from the Activation Towers from time-time, and then if close-by might hear the device from the Stolen Car [Rare]

Any idea on the differences in audio sounds? After putting the frequency in the radio, I have heard periodic squawks on the channel. Both in my small town and on a recent trip over the weekend to Ottawa.

You would know if you heard a Stolen Car, the Beep, Beep, Beep is much different from the tower activation/deactivation signals.

Try YouTube and see if they have any Lojack or the TV Show Cops, listening to what the LEO's hear on the Tracker will help too..

Ok, that helps. Listened to the downlink example http://www.kb9ukd.com/digital/lojack.wav and that's what I've been able to hear. Now from what I gather that signal is coming from towers? Not Satellites, so these would have to be somewhere fairly close then. Which in my area, which is not a major area like Ottawa but more rural and still able to hear it, makes me think that OPP should probably have these in there vehicles for tracking purposes as well I think.

What about the sound upon activation though of a stolen vehicle. I didn't see anything on that page about that. What would we hear on the frequency on the scanner? Would we hear the high pitch beeping noises as illustrated in the youtube videos?

Interesting none the less. Sure it's only a squawking/beeping frequency but suppose it'd be handy to program you almost come up on an area where there's a stolen vehicle perhaps then being tracked if ya heard it activated.

The funny thing is I've never seen a cruiser equipped with any LoJack antennas except in the US.

I'm wondering about the whole feasibility of it if no police service has ever bothered to install it?

I'll have to look up the frequencies and see if there's anything in this area.

Checked out the webpage and they mention that they have their own Recovery Teams.

There's a site close to me so I'll stick it in and see what I hear.

I wonder if maybe they don't utilize some sort of triangulation with sites places all around. Not very accurate, but if they have their own recovery guys...

I would guess that they've switched over to GPS now and use the VHF network to transmit the position of the device.

Makes sense. Surprised TAFL lists as many results as it does. I would have thought that with cellular coverage being so good (and so inexpensive for low data usage), they would have gone that way.

They mention that their devices work in buildings which makes me think they chose VHF for that reason.

IF they still have the 173Mhz active , it's not GPS supported. Basic RF Triangulation [4 Antennas on Roof of Cruiser/Support Vehicle]

I would guess that they've switched over to GPS now and use the VHF network to transmit the position of the device.
