I am wondering if any local stations still transmit over conventional scanner frequencies. I know that KSL use to have a "feed" of there news casts. On it you could also hear the director giving cues. The main reason I ask is at my job I sometime have to drive a Van with NO radio, I take my scanner and enjoy that but would like to maybe catch the noon news on it. Any other info about local media frequencies also would be nice to have.

I've received KSL News Radio Traffic reports on 455.350; Traffic Air on 450.375; and a newscast feed on 450.0875. It is a start. On a personal note, I am slowly getting accustom to all the radio signals that are available in this valley. I really am not use to having so much to listen to. I've spent the past couple of weekends searching for Trunking systems in the valley, using Unitrunker. So far I've "found" 12 different systems, and 8 sites for the UCAN system. Strange thing is I can get Hill Field site 0 on 410.1625. and . But in the Sugar House area, I receive Site 4 on 407.9625. Interesting.

Trunking Systems

I'm not sure how many trunking systems there are but there are basically only two public safety systems and I like listening to the airport's system too. The public safety systems are UCAN and Salt Lake City. Both of them have simulcast from several different sites. If you want more help on these, start a new thread so as not to distract from the information that Utah Viper is looking for here concerning news frequencies.

You could probably find most of the trunking information in the RR Database anyway. Course that isn't as much fun as searching it out.

KSL's main frequency ("TV Desk") is 450.250. Other frequencies I've heard in use recently are 450.1125, 450.050, and the previously mentioned 450.0875. 450.050 seems to be used mainly by the "on-scene" reporters reading in and out cues to the studio. The 455 MHz portion of the band seems to be used mostly for live remotes and the news choppers. If there are any live remotes from RC Willey, etc. in your area, check the 455 MHz band for some interesting "behind the scenes" commentary. Finally, I used to hear KTVX reporters talking to the studio on 450.4875, but it's been so long since I heard any activity on that frequency that I'm not sure if it's still in use.

If your scanner will receive them, check 26.0000-27.0000, if you are near remote units (low-power IFB). Usually one hears the program's audio, but occasionally the director cueing the "talent".
