When setting up GPS based scanning...

From a a fresh SD Format, Only the HPDB loaded.
-Power up scanner. Boots, Loads DB.
-Nothing to Scan is displayed.
-GPS is active, GPS is on the screen - Solid, Not Flashing.

First Q..
-Should the radio acquire the long/lat and begin scanning independently.
( Service types are selected & active)
Or..
-Must Auto-Locate, or Zip option be used for initial setup?

And ,
-Will location/GPS proceed to provide loc data there after, from state to state for example.
-Is there an

You do have it set to monitor the Full Database ????

No - Auto locate is a totally separate process for determining location.

And ,

Yes - as long as the full DB is loaded.

Make sure menu - set scan selection - select lists to monitor - Full database ON

The scanner should think it is wherever it was last. (May not be true for a reformat sd card) The GPS may take a little time to acquire a signal. Once it acquires the Satellites the scanner should load whatever is within range. That would also include the range set for the scanner. Make sure location control is active for any FLs. The GPS may not acquire a signal if there isn't a clear line of sight to the satellite. Note Metal roofs will block signal. If the GPS is inside the car and not by a window if may have GPS displayed but can't acquire satellite lock.

I assumed since the OP said the GPS indicator was on that the Baud rate was correct.

Thanks for the follow ups.
I had my user set up his 436, and let it stand,
took about 45 min for the freshly flashed GPS
module I installed to get a fix..

Fellow called me very excited, I just emailed him
some cut & pastes from this thread..

the guys mid 70s..no idea how to program the radio,
let alone program custom FL lists for multi state travel..

Uniden hit a home run with this feature,,and again,

You may want to select only Service Types you want to trim down the scan time. Also suggest trimming down the range the scanner is set to.

Est 45 min from a Cold start, Not sure of what its location was, or the geography.

I set him up good, a 2 g SD with the DB loaded and Types selected...
He wanted just power n play...
Last text from him,,thumbs up..and a radar dish..lol..
70s..and sends emoji's...awesome...

45 minutes? OMG Why?

If the memory in a GPS are totally empty of info, it needs to download a calender and other data from the satellites that takes at least 10 minutes but can be considerable more depending of how many satellites are in view. Some GPS receivers can load or update a calender manually thru the serial port and then it takes just 30 seconds to get a fix. Usually you use a GPS often enough so that the calender doesn't go out of date.
