I’m using a bcd996xlt with a dcproduction log antenna at 40ft which works great. During trunk tracking I can receive stations 50 miles. My question: Is there an amplifier that I can get that’s not connected directly installed onto the antenna? This might help pushing the envelope to receive additional fringe areas reception. Any thoughts and value.

I have amplifiers in my room and compared to running with just the coax to the scanner there's a noticeable improvement.

Get a low noise amp and preferable one that can take big signals without hesitating. Amplifiers has a gain of something like 20dB so you'll have to attenuate the signal down to a level where the scanner works within its best sensitivity. Use a variable 0-20dB attenuator before the scanner and adjust to best analog signal with the least noise, or might also be doable with a digital signal to adjust to best reception and operation.

A company in Canada sells a good amplifier and the attenuator has to be available in most shops that sell sat dish components.
