HCJB Ecuador is gone...

That's weird. Why would HCJB in Ecuador, a pioneer in shortwave broadcasting, transmit from Chile to Chile? I don't doubt that's what the charts say, but I wonder if that's correct.

I'll have to tell 'yall my HCJB stories some day.

k9rzz,

Sadly, I believe it is correct. I read a while back that HCJB had shut down their Ecuador transmitter site in October, 2009. Now, they purchase airtime from CVC who has a transmitter site near Santiago, Chile. It's really sad, because the HCJB Ecuador station had some of the most unique and sophisticated shortwave broadcast antennas in the world. Here's a link I found to an article that talks a little bit about the HCJB broadcasts transferring to CVC -> Pastor Named as Head of HCJB Global-Brazil | HCJB Global News

It looks like "The Voice of the Andes" is no more... :(

ridgescan,

I found another link (from Wikipedia) confirming that the Ecuador broadcast site is being dismantled -> HCJB - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia :(

I was just going to tack on to the previous post, but when I discovered that I made a new one, I couldn't go back and delete it. This board is so primitive No, I'm not the king of the low bands by any stretch of the imagination. You guys just have to start tuning around down there.

This antenna was quiet last year. Moved the vertical more in open, got 5 raised radials out, balun to isolate window line from coax, but still noisy. Hears really well, but hears noise too. Still some daylight - may try adding the top hat again.

Shortwave database was updated again today: http://www.hfskeds.com/skeds/

9340khz 1950z Radio Farda via Sri Lanka. Right over north pole. S7-8, a little flutter, but very good copy.

Radio New Zealand is coming in pretty good right now on 15720khz
EDIT just so you guys know I have been coming across a bunch of DXs where what I get isn't scheduled to come on till the next hour. It is consistant so therefor it has been reliable that I assume what I hear is the broadcast that doesn't have "ON" next to it but reads to be on the next hour.
I.E. I have China Nat'l Radio on right now at 0028utc on 15480khz but it reads 0100 start time.

Video coming shortly. Will have a demo uploaded in 30 mins. Hey Ridge, I think you've got your Zulu/local time conversion off by an hour.

I don't use zulu I use UTC:) my UTC time matches with their UTC time but the problem is their little red "ON" icons don't match what I am getting here. They were matching until we all did the fallback When the time change happened their UTC clock was still 1 hour off-then yesterday morning it was correct-now I get this. Next time I get this I'll shoot a vid and show ya what I mean. I got a feeling it's because I am in the pacific time zone.

Maybe they're still on DST...

ridgescan,

For the record, zulu time = UTC (they're the same thing). Here's a possible explanation... Not all parts of the world change to/from DST at the same time. If the areas you are monitoring are still on DST, then they might appear to be off by an hour. When they switch back to standard time, it will all fall back in place again. It's just a thought... :)
