I should receive BBC from Africa and Deutsche Welle Africa along with some scattered European broadcasters. Australia comes in good when they go down to 9000 KHZ and New Zealand is easy to catch for me in Reno.

I used to have Hallicrafters SX-107 receiver; that's what got me started listening to CHP because it would easily reach down to 33-50 MHZ FM.

I get those pretty regularly here and I am not far from you there so you will too-especially with the loop.
I haven't heard Deutsch Welle in a long time. They are still doing English out of Africa but I used to run across them more often than now.

Zanzibar Broadcasting Corporation, 50kw non-directional, 11,735khz 2100z. Good signal with NO interference. My first time hearing them. Here's a clip, listen for "ZBC" mentioned quickly in the first minute of the video, then great music which I listened to for 2 hours. Nice time pips at top of each hour. Seems like a good band right now at that time for Africa. Video:

Good DX Jim. You enjoy that beautiful Drake! Just saw one on Ytube since you mentioned yours and I think I need to get a Drake into my humble collection of RXers here.
You should do a video if you can.

Thanks Ridge.
Well if you get one you won't be disappointed!
I need to order the rest of parts to finish building the external VFO synthesizer. An article in a 2004 QST magazine shows how to build one. This allows the SPR-4 and the R-line Drake receivers to be continuous coverage. Right now it only covers 11.5 mhz of the spectrum with the crystal slots all full.

Glad you did Jay! It's cool reading SWL loggings from your region-it's rare. Keep them coming.

I think you forgot one very important piece of information when submitting logs... care to guess what that is?

*looks sheepish*

Yeah, I got so excited about how well my new antenna was performing last night that I forgot to add the bloody freqs. I was hoping the moderators didn't approve my stupid post.

I'll try again later when I'm smarter. ;)

Trying again. :) My XYL left in the wee hours of the morning to go distance-running with her marathon trainer as today's a national holiday, so I got up too and decided to listen. I was hoping to snag some African stations, but no luck. Here's my log entries:

2014UTC 12085KHz R. Australia in English from Shepparton, ID at 2015UTC. SINPO 25323.

2017UTC 4835KHz ABC Northern Territory (regional station), YL in English. SINPO 15322.

2019UTC 9410KHz R. Free Asia, Chinese music, bc from Tinian Island, SINPO 35343. Also on 9455KHz, same programming, weaker signal. 2118UTC 6020KHz also, SINPO 12431. Interference from other, v. weak stations on same freq.

2027UTC 9835KHz R. Televisyon Malaysia (RTM), poss. relay of Sarawak FM, Malaysian pop music program, SINPO 45544.

2030UTC 12065KHz R. Australia OM interviewing an accented cane farmer about the sugar cane market (which isn't doing well), interviewee sounds like Indian or Pacific Islander. 2032UTC ID'd him as Mohammed something-or-other from Fiji. Hope he survived the recent typhoon. SINPO 35444. YL took over @ 2032UTC, ID then sports by OM @ 2033UTC. News magazine program.

2045UTC 7445KHz Asian music SINPO 33443, OM in Chinese in bg, SINPO 22442. Short-wave.info website shows only R. Free Asia bc in Chinese from Kuwait on this freq at this time. Suspect music is PRC's attempt at jamming as it's wall-to-wall music, no announcers. At least they're jamming with music rather than just noise. VERY SAME programming on 7415KHz but music is weaker, Chinese OM is stronger. Maybe that's the way RFA's programming is, talk and music at the same time?

2051UTC 7345KHz CNR 1 (Chinese National Radio, regional) from Beijing, 100KW. Chinese. SINPO 15311.

2055UTC 5865KHz R. Farda from Kuwait in Persian. SINPO 35343.

2056UTC 4820KHz PBS Xizang from Lhaza-Baiding. V. weak, SINPO 15311.

2112UTC 3985KHz Echo of Hope in Korean from Hwaseong, YL/OM alternating. SINPO 24322. Pretty weak.

2115UTC 5965KHz V. of Islamic Rep. of Iran in Japanese, v. weak. SINPO 15231. Can barely hear YL, just audible enough to ID the language.

2122UTC 6040KHz CNR 2, Chinese regional. YL in Chinese. SINPO 25422. Pop song started at 2124UTC. Sounds like a Western song (American?) YL singing, piano accompaniment. Announcers broke in moments later. :( 2123UTC more music, OM singing w/piano, sounds Chinese.

2130UTC 7205KHz CRI China Radio International, YL/OM alternating in English. She sounds American (Californian, I'd say, by her accent. Slightly Valley Girl-ish. She sounds young and American, anyhow.) OM has neutral accent w/very slight Chinese intonation. SINPO 35444.. 2133 OM describing picture of Sophia Lauren. Why??? 2134, now she's talking about dating. Maybe the show's oriented (no pun intended, hah!) to teenagers? 2136UTC, she described The Donald (Trump) as having a squirrel sitting on his head!

2138UTC 9720KHz KSDA AWR Guam, Chinese. 2139 OM sings what sounds like a hymn, in Chinese with band/orchestra accompaniment. Also piano. SINPO 45545. Nice signal, boring programming. Bc from Agat, Guam.
