A fireman on his way to a fire asked a fireman who was at the scene for an update as he was a ways away.
The first fireman told him to switch to simplex. After that I didn't hear anything, anyone know what the simplex freq. is? I checked the data base and didn't find any simplex freq.

I do have all of those frequencies on the radio, still didn't hear anything. Simplex, isn't that the same as mobile and repeater frequency with the mobile minus the repeater being the simplex freq?

You probably didnt hear it because you werent within range to hear the radio. simplex is a basic radio to radio communication Portables are usually 3-5 watts

Yup, I think you are right on the money. The accident was actually down near Lambeth which would put them out of ranger for mobile to mobile, I should have thought of that. Thanks again guys.

Simplex is only used on Tac 3,4,5

The chief will put his crossband on 154.95000 and the Tac channel so the dispatcher can hear what is going on

Thanks again, I didn't have 154.95 on my radio, but now I do.

They use the simplex channels sometime while in University or Victoria Hospitals as well, as the coverage stinks in there. LFD has also left sets of portables in various locations thru out Vic Hospital to use while they are on site. They are using 466.2625, PL 107.2 (this frequency is actually licensed to London Health Sciences, yet the radios have London Fire Department stickers on them). Once they migrate to the EDACS system, coverage around the city should be much much better.

London Fire on EDACS now?

Just wondering, is London Fire on EDACS now because there seems to be no activity on the Motorola system. I only hear the conventional frequencies anymore. Does anyone have the EDACS system information for London Fire (if so please post under the Middlesex database under Ontario) also is it encrypted like PD is now or not? I don't see why fire would really need to encrypt radio traffic unless to protect sensitive information or shoe off fire bugs or secure information regarding arson investigation. If London Fire is now that is a shame...
