Well if LB Fire has been on VHF forever most likely either they are getting new mobile and portables radios which would include the 700/800 mhz band. Obvioulsy its going to be Motorola APX line of radios for the mobiles for the rigs and portable APX for the hips.

Most likely they are either getting the APX 7550 in VHF/700/800 dual band and or the 8500 for quad bandand. Most likely the quad band which would give them VHF still for Dispatch for now. UHF-2 for LB PD for Now and UHF-2 for LACOFD Analog and UHF-2/700 mhz for LA-RICS FIRE. Then 700/800 mhz for The Port of Long Beach for their TRS system for FIRE and PD. Also, this would give them 800 mhz for LA City Fire on conventional too.

If they go with the APX 8000 then this would cover everything above which I mentioned and it gives them quad band coverage. If they thought it threw correctly this would be optimal for them. Also, this would give them 800 mhz coverage for Orange County. They might get a zone for OC too for freeway coverage into Seal Beach on the 405 frwy.

I bet they are all getting new moibles and portables if you look at the logic behind where they are on the map for their city.

Long Beach fire has been on VHF for as long as I can remember. We are talking 50 or 60 years.
With everyone else updating their systems, I would think Long Beach has to keep up if they want to talk to them.
Radios do give out and need to be replaced after time.
Time will tell what is going on.

Every agency in LA County is "supposed" to re-program yearly to keep up to speed with the TICP. LA County Fire reprograms 6+ times a year.
LOB Fire also wouldn't buy dual band APX7500s that were end of life'd by Motorola in 2018. Just because its an APX8500 doesn't mean its "quad band".

I've seen APX 8000's being carried by LB FF's for about 2-3 years now, and most of the rigs have tri-band PCTEL antennas on them.
There you go. Sounds about right. Quad band for every system surrounding the city now
