Looking at Harrison County in the database, I see several of the casinos and resorts are using either DMR or NXDN. There are also several DMR channels in use by the Biloxi school district.

I'm very familiar with the Harrison County section on RR. I've submitted most of the info for the county. All casinos use either DMR or NXDN with the exception of Boomtown, which is still using LTR, and 2 other Casinos (Palace & Golden Nugget) are still using Analog Conventional frequencies.

There is only 1 DMR frequency for the Biloxi Public Schools, which is a DMR1F system used by the High School and Junior High. All the other BPS schools use analog conventional. These I've also submitted since I'm a BPS employee.

There are tons more businesses that I've found over the years that are sometimes interesting to listen to. There's only 1 that has me completely stumped as to how it works, the Biloxi Grand Casino (now Harrahs, I think) that uses XPT and have never been able to get usable LCN's for it. That one is not submitted yet, but I just put 5 sites in with 1 frequency in each site, and it's about 75% working.

If you live in Long Beach, you are very close to Hancock county too, especially Bay St. Louis. Hollywood casino is there, but I don't get over there very much, but they have a 5 frequency CAP site there. I have yet to submit this one.

I'm glad someone corrected me, I forgot about the other 4 scanners that can pick up provoice besides the 436/536. I had a SDS100 when they first came out, but had to sell it due to a financial situation. Hope to get another one as soon as I can afford it.

Hope this info helps, if you need any help setting up Harrison County, let me know.

BCD396XT is pretty simple using FreeSCAN or ProScan or ARC XT for updataing the DB and programming etc... To update the FW - BCD396XTFirmwareUpdate < UnidenMan4 < TWiki
Just a FYI - FreeSCAN, is not being updated, or modified and is currently a dead project. It will still function, but there will most likely never be another update for it. ProScan is your best bet, it is not free, but there are constant free updates for life and it supports almost all the Uniden's there are.
As for setting things up - Your best friend: Easier to Read BCD396XT Digital Scanner Manual
OK I'm a simpleton, Downloaded the BC_VUP_V3_03_00.ZIP, selected open, selected extract all, browsed for destination folder, clicked the desktop icon on the far left of the pop up window and clicked extract, 2 files appear. One is setup/Application and the other is setup_BC_VUP windows installer, using my limited common sense I selected the installer setup wizard, installation folder c:\Program files(x86)\uniden\BC_VUP\ clicked next, click yes to allow. I did this with the usb connected and without it connected. what am i missing

Did you: 3 Run the BC_VUP3 application you installed in Step 2. Follow all on-screen instructions, selecting the BCD396XT to update and the V1_11_01 version.

That seems to be what I'm missing, it never gave me that option and I haven't figured out how to run it

In step 2 Unzip the files you downloaded in Step 1 to your desktop. Then run setup.exe to install the firmware updater. Then do 3

Be sure to download and install drivers before plugging the cable in.

Step 1 download Step 2 select desktop and extract, files installed and shows in Programs and Features. How do I get to Step 3? after the file installs I see no option to run. 2 files appear 1 is labeled setup-application the other is setup-windows installer, I double clicked the installer, just don't seem to get to step 3

Make sure you have the DRIVERS for the USB-1 cable installed. Then plug in the cable, and scanner, and go from there.

Installed PL_23XX_Prolific_DriverInstaller_v200 zip Driver Version 3.8.31.0 to computer and it shows in device manager . Deleted the BC_VUP_V3_00.zip and re installed it again, I still don't know how to run step 3 . At what point do I plug in the USB-1 cable ? and when in this process do I get the option to run it

Once the drivers are installed, and you have done step 1, plug in the cable and scanner, run step 2, and 3.

1. Download file 2. Plugin USB-1 to computer with radio turned on 3. unzip to desktop 4. open folder and double click setup_BC_VUP Windows Installer and it should run from there

Follow any on screen drop down windows and everything should go from there. Then you have to roll with ProScan, FreeSCAN, or ARC XT and do your programming etc...

Oh, check the baud rates for the port and scanner, make sure both match. 115200 Once you plug in the cable and its showing up then its not a cable issue. If it was a cable issue it would not even show up when plugged in.

Plug in cable, plug in the scanner, run the FW update software, and make sure you choose the BCD396XT in the process. Then go on to the Programming Software phase.

Oh, BTW, did you check to see what version of FW your scanner is running to see if you even need to update it?
