I may be moving in the not-so-near future to Long Branch in Monmouth County. Does anyone out that way monitor the police/fire? Are they pretty active? Are surrounding towns active...if so, which ones? Are the police still operating on the same frequency of 155.7900?

Any input would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks!

Yes. Long Branch Police is still dispatched 155.790 PL 151.4. On rare occasions the PD also used 154.040 PL 151.4, Long Branch Local, but as I said, rarely. Fire is dispatched by Monmouth County on County Fire 1, 154.430 PL 151.4, along with a number of other towns. FD is dispatched as District 25. Their fire ground channel is 154.265 PL 151.4, Monmouth County Fire 5, and it's a simplex frequency. EMS is dispatched by County on County EMS 1, 155.175 PL 151.4, along with a number of other squads. Long Branch is Squads 25-21 (Long Branch) and 25-22 (Elberon). Elberon First Aid Squad has a private channel, 155.160 PL 151.4, but I don't know how much it is used. As for surrounding towns, you might want to monitor Oceanport, Monmouth Beach, West Long Branch, Sea Bright, Red Bank, Fair Haven, Rumson, Deal, Little Silver, Highlands, Atlantic Highlands, Sandy Hook State Park, and then the towns west of Atlantic Highlands if you want, like Middletown, Keansburg, Keyport, Union Beach, all known as the Bayshore Area Towns. Try Allenhurst and Asbury Park also. Go to the RR Database here for the frequencies:

http://radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&ctid=1783.

If I left anything out, I'm sure someone will add.

When progrmming in 154.430, be sure to use the PL stated by Ken above. Otherwise, you will also get FDNY City-wide with loads of radio traffic. Thanks to Ken and SCANdal for finding my error. Corrected above with apologies.

Atlantic Highlands PD is digital, however, IIRC, they use a digital format that can't be monitored on a scanner. Everything else in Monmouth is clear and unencrypted...

You are correct crabs74, my error posting that, and my apologies. Fire and EMS, however, are analog. I read sometime ago on one of the boards that PD is considering going to either conventional or APCO 25 digital, which would mean we would be able to monitor them. BTW, just read on Scan-NJ that there's a good possibility Rumson and Fair Haven, and maybe a few more towns may be going to County dispatch for Fire.

I take it Atlantic Highlands PD uses a pre-APCO 25 digital system (ie. VSLEP). Exactly what type of system is that?

Saw the same item... I guess towns are looking to county dispatch as a cost saving measure (ie. pay the county rather than staff their own fire boards).

Thanks for the info everyone...I really appreciate it.

BRUCE...when you say use the PL...I'm using RS scanners so would that mean to use the attenuation feature? I'm not too sure how to enter a PL...nor do I recall ever seeing a PL field on any of the Win programs I use from Donn Starr.

I'm glad there will be so many surrounding towns for me to listen to. Do you think I will be within range to monitor all those towns with just a RS 800MHz antenna?

Thanks again for all your feedback....I sincerely appreciate it!!!

If you haven't seen the PL/DC option in the software from Don, you probably don't have that function in your unit (possibly a Pro-93?)

The attenuator is for cutting down on strong signals that might overload the front-end of the scanner's receiver.

The RS 800MHz antenna will do you justice on the NJSP Troop-C system, but with most everything the guys just posted above, you should really get a high-quality VHF BNC antenna that's tuned for the 150-174 MHz spread, such as these.

Win96 and Win97 say "CT" instead of "PL" and "DC" instead of "DL" (for DPL).

DJ88: To my knowledge, Atlantic Highlands PD uses 154.8150 MHz in VSELP digital mode. You mention "that PD is considering going to either conventional or APCO 25 digital". What non-conventional system do they have in place?
