So how does one remotely control a PCR1500 over a dial-up phone line connection now that there is only a USB port? At least the 1000's serial port could be connected to a modem at a remote location and controlled via dial-up from a PC. There isn't any Internet access so an IP-based connection isn't available.

Anyone have a solution?

There's now software that offers limited remote support for the 1500 called PCR Remote. See the PCR1000 Wiki page (also works on that rx) for the link. How 'limited' it is I don't know.

PCRemote requires Internet access. This needs to work on a stand-alone dial-up modem connection. Thanks for the info, though.

Wouldn't you still be able to connect your dial-up modem to the computer's RS232 serial port, and the PCR-1500 to a USB port?

There is no PC. The 1000 could be connected directly to a modem and that was all there was at the remote location. It would be nice not to have to dedicate a whole PC to the remote location.

Gotcha! I have a PCR-1500 and I'm not so sure there is not still a serial port function internally on the board. If you click on the USB icon on the Icom software, it shows:

Port Setting
IC-PCR1500 2101287 COM=4

It's grayed out, so you can't change anything. It leads me to believe that maybe it has a USB-to-Serial adapter integrated on the main board. Maybe if you could get your hands on a schematic you could tell.

How did you obtain audio?
