Looking for a highend Handheld Voice Recorder...

I am looking for a highend Handheld Voice Recoder that doesn't need to have alot of memory. It really just needs the ability to record and playback at the same time while maintaining a separation between the input and the output audio.

Like Tivo...

It has a moving window of recordable memory that will allow me to replay something I wasn't sure about what I heard. I could replay it over and over again and still not miss what the scanner was hearing in the meantime. Yes, I would not have information pertaining to what the freq is that I am listening to but we all learn what the dispatchers, repeaters, protocols or IDs are and we tend to get a good idea of who we are listening to.

What I hope to find...

At least 30 minutes of recording time. 2 hours prefered.

At least a 10 Minute moving window. 30 minutes prefered.

Vox circuit.

A choice to record each hit as a separate file or a multiple hits in one file.

3.5 mm mic jack

Computer downloadable

Adjustable recording level.

Small - handheld.

Uses AA batteries

Has my name on it

WOW thats a tall order!!!!!!! I don't think I have ever heard of something that advanced. good luck, maybe you should get in touch with some company and pitch the idea to them.

Thanks for the info but I do not want to lug a computer around and that software does not seem to allow recording and playback at the same time.

Using a seperate mp3 player software such as windows media player will allow you to listen to what you have recorded while Audio Record Wizard records the audio of your scanner - but since you want to remain mobile all the time, probably isn't for you - just an idea.

Once again thanks for the idea. I think you are not understanding what I mean though.

Being able to back up (go in reverse - not saving) realtime recordings by a few seconds when needed is what I need to do. I am betting that you will not be able to play and record the same file at the same time.

I am a Tivo freak. I own 4 (only 2 are in use at this time) and I would wear one around my neck if I could. I hate hearing something interesting on the AM/FM/SAT radio and missing one important piece of info (I am trying to find one for my car that does it in stereo). And then spend the rest of the time trying to put it togther and therefore missing more info.

As far as video goes I can press the jumpback button and see and hear to what was said 8 seconds ago over and over if I need to so I can understand what was said or make sure I saw what I thought I saw.

It really would take little effort for radio manufacurers to add that circuity to the radio. The moving window (tivo-like) feature is the most important aspect of it.

My Yaesu FT-50 has a audio recorder added to it and later in production I think it was proabably the 1st radio to have one built in. It really never caught on. I think it would have if someone would have added the moving window recording feature.

I saw a kit by RAMSEY but it is clunky and expensive.

Has anyone ever heard of the VADER?

I know what you are wanting to do sounds like it would be easy to implement. However since what you are wanting to do is have a small item that can record and playsimultaniously you are going to be out of luck. the reason a TIVO can do it is because it uses a hard drive to store the info for the past amount of time (can be set by user) and then alow you to play it while it stores the rest of what you would normally be watching so you can catch up. A hendheld unit using flash memory is simply not yet advanced enough to do that. Its the fact that you want it to be able to playback while recording that is going to be stopping you.

Thougha suggestion to a manufacturer may be in order.

I was giving a thought to building my own. A few years ago RS had a chip and schematics for a voice recorder that wasn't too many $$.

What I thought about was using a redundant chip(Like the Tivo HD).

The audio whould be loaded into both chips at the same time. One would be play and the other record.

The logic I haven't figured out among other things is how to keep it from actually reaching the end of the memory because a moving window has no end it has now instead.

I predict that one of us one this site is gunna build a cheap one before the end of the year
