Looking for a new scanner- which is the best?

I have posted this on the Oklahoma Discussion Forum, without realizing it. And I have received some very good answers and opinions- Any suggestions from Michigan people (since I live in Mich).

I own a RS pro-2050 and do not like it. I know, it is partially my fault cuz, I really do not have a great knowledge of scanners. But, I am currently looking at the Ar8200MKIII. Am I looking in the right direction????? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Living in Michigan, owning a scanner that can decode 9600 baud P-25 trunking systems is pretty much a standard, especially with the newer simulcast systems that are going in place over the next two years. However, really depends on not only what your interests in monitoring are, but what county you live in.

I find that the Uniden 796D can not only decode the MPSCS system, but will also work on the new Ingham County EDACS Narrowband system. IMHO, I really prefer a mobile scanner over a handheld because of better selectivity and sensitivity in most cases; hence, my vote goes for the Uniden 796D.

I don't live in Michigan, but i live pretty close to there. The pro 96 is a nice scanner, and will receive the state of Michigan really well. Ive been pulling in signals from my area from time to time, and im about 50 miles or more away. And thats with the rubber attena it came with. And the radio being portable you can always take it with you anywhere. And no battery packs to buy just 4AAs. It also has a feature called AGC volume control, where you dont have to set the audio, which is a good feature. But if you want to monitor LTR which i see theres alot in your state youll have to go with uniden. Both are very good, and have different features just depends on what you want to listen too.
