I am pretty new to this hobby and i do not know a whole lot about it.

I have a bearcat scanner that i got second hand and it works great for emergency frequencies and such, but i live close to a busy comercial airport and an airforce base so i would like to find one that will search aviation frequencies. (the one i have will not) i would also like it to scan CB frequencies for those long road trips back home. (the bearcat only goes down to like 28 and the CB bands are 26 and 27. i would like a handheld unit and relativley cheep. Im perfectly fine with used as long as its in good shape.

I have seen some that will do the aviation bands, (found an old pro37 that says it will locally for $25) but i have yet to find one that will do the CB bands.

Any help would be great!!

1. Where do you live? It's impossible to provide any options until we know what trunked systems exist near you, military base ops, and where your public safety agencies operate. CB, like any radio system, is worthless without the right kind of antennas. What is defined as "cheap"? How flexible are you in balancing cheap versus radio capabilities? Not trying to be a wiseguy but we need more information.

no offense taken, as i said im new to this so i do not know what info is needed.

i live in south east houston, close to hobby airport and ellington air force base. as stated above i would like a handheld unit and i was unaware that there were different antennas available for these. i would prefer to keep it under $50. but i could sell the bearcat if i could find one that does everything i want and possibly more.

i just like to listen to the going ons around me. and would like to listen in on the "channel 19" on those long road trips.

Hello beason , welcome to RadioReference :)

I think the BC 246T would do you nicely, as you learn more about scanning you will appreciate what this one can do. I've pasted a WIKI entry on it: http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/BC246T

Perhaps you can look for other brands or models in the WIKI as well.
While you are on the site check out the For Sale forum to see about a used deal.
Otherwise, I guess e-bay may be the route to go.

Good Luck. :)
