For you non-New Yorkers:

Albany is not within radio range of New York City. I'm often amazed at how many people believe that every other city in the state is just a suburb of NYC. Albany is a 3-hour drive from NYC. Rochester is 7+ hours. Buffalo is almost 10 hours. New York State is a big place - bigger than some European countries! (In fact, Steuben County is larger than the State of Rhode Island all by itself.)

Dave, How about providing a feed when something big is happening? I was trying to find a feed the other night to hear that multi alarm fire on Central ave. No dice. You should be able to hear their system fine from your location, no? I'm just out of range up here in hillbilly country.

The major problem with providing a feed only when something big happens is that by the time anyone finds the feed, the incident will be over.

Someone with a fixed IP address could do it. People could check and see if there's anything on the feed when they get wind of a major incident in the area, and the feed would always be in the same "place" on the Internet.
