Does anyone have any suggestions for a good ICOM Mobile radio for an EMS Vehicle. I want something that is narrowband compatable and is not expensive. Any suggestions. Any help would be appreciated!

Make sure you ask the licensee what radios (if any) are permitted for personal purchase. Being a member of an EMT group does not give you permission to put a radio on their channels, they must authorise it. (Radio licenses specify the number of permitted units)

Then they should be providing the radio. If they aren't, it's a personal radio, and requires the mentioned permission to be legal.

I guess it depends on how things work there. I am the radio guy for our volunteer rescue squad. Even though the building and two of the trucks belong to county Emergency Management, we provide all of the portable, base, and mobile radio equipment from our fundraising events. I installed both of our repeaters at the city water tank and filed the paperwork to the coordinating groups and the FCC. However, we have clear instructions about what county radio channels are to be used and those that we don't have access to. If the radio is going into a privately owned vehicle, you should have a memorandum of use paper signed by the agency head allowing it. Otherwise it is not permissible.

If you havent bought anything yet and are looking to conserve space look at the F-5061, http://www.theantennafarm.com/catal...duct_info&cPath=66_68_138_143&products_id=556 You can remote mount it. I just picked one up. I am also the "radio guy" for the rescue squad, the squad has to purchase the radios but we are licensed on the county frequencies. I sumbitt my opinions and prices to the membership for approval, I usually buy the software with the radio, program it up and install it, all legally under the county license!

I would have to recommend the Icom F-5061.It is easy to operate and has all the features and more any fd or rescue dept would be looking for.

I would not recommend the F-121 I do own one of these I do not feel they are built for /emergency services.Maybe construction ect

Sounds like urban legend about antennafarm.

The 5061 is a fine radio, but will never be P25 capable, which while it may not be an issue now for an agency, it may be soon.

The Icom 1721 01 can be had for around $500.00, and is fully APCO 25 capable out of the box. No add ons, etc.

Ebay has one right now, 330190983989 "B" stock, which means it is a non sold repack.

Looks like it is $340 extra for a fully digital radio per the link that you sent. Looks more like $839.95 for a digital out of the box radio.
