• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello, this is my first post. New to the radio world, but I have network engineering experience. I work in LE so I also have practical radio use experience.

I run the security program for my Diocese and specifically my Church, and we were blessed to receive a donation for some new radio equipment. I searched around and the purchase was made for 30x NX-1300NUK5 radios with one NX-1800 base station for our SOC. Our dealer has been great and offered to provide me with the programming software for the 1300's and a cable as well so I can try to figure out a few different configuration methods I may like. I have used a few types of Retevis and Baofeng radios and their programming software in the past, and I am assuming there are some similarities between these pieces of software.

I was looking to see if there are any basic guides or documentation for this software that I could review for information on programming and learning how to program different features onto these radios. Specifically with the emergency and scan functions. I hope this was the right place to post this, haven't been on a forum in a while. This project has sparked my interest in other possibilities including networked multi-site radio operations.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

You made a great choice on the radios, I'll assume you already have a license and all since you went thru a proper dealer. I'll attach screenshots of how I run scan and Emergency. I don't know how big your diocese is, but I'll assume it's Catholic so that I can get an idea lol. If your parish has multiple churches then I definitely see a use case for linked sites.

To set up emergency, go to key assignments and (I'd recommend either of the 2 side keys) set one to Emergency and then set the timer. If you want some users to have the locator tone go to full volume then you can set that under the volume settings in Optional Features>Common 2.

Regarding scan, it's different for every use case but I think my set up is generic enough.

I don't have any other docs but the built in help files are pretty good.

For multi-site, you could do a conventional networked system using NXR-1800 repeaters and that'd probably be good enough.

If you want me to look through any configs you make and make suggestions or proofreading for lack of a better term, I'd be happy to

Ask your dealer to pull a copy of NX-1200/NX-1300 Series Function Reference Manual off the dealer site. That will cover most of the functions.

The "help" feature in the software is pretty useful, also.

If your dealer won't do it for you (they should) let us know and we can help.

As for the multi-site...

Conventional IP link is the feature you can have added to the repeaters. That will allow you to link multiple repeaters together over a data network. I'm using this at one of my sites, and it works pretty well.

Just be aware, repeaters require specific licensing for each site. Unless it's is already included on your FCC license, you'll need to work with a frequency coordinator or your radio shop to get them added to your license.
Repeaters take a lot of knowledge and test equipment to set up. Usually best to have a dealer/trained tech set it up for you. It's not a do it yourself kind of thing.

Back to "how big is the diocese". Can it be covered from a single site? That may be a more initial and ongoing cost-effective answer than a multi-site solution. Your dealer really should be the first stop in system design for a number of reasons.

Thank you very much. I don't mind sharing some information with you in a PM once I get access to the software. And yes, we were licensed with 5 business frequencies for 5 different channels, although this happened right before the government shutdown, so I believe it's still processing. Regardless, the radios are absolutely outstanding for the application.

This is exactly what I was intending on doing. Each parish has only 1 Church associated with it. We are an Eastern Catholic Eparchy, and therefore, our geographical jurisdiction is much larger than that of a typical Catholic Diocese. I am responsible for 10 Churches in Michigan, 2 Churches in Illinois, 1 Retreat Center in Michigan, 1 Campgrounds in Michigan, and 1 Religious Organization in Michigan. Almost all of these locations will need to be networked with one another. So far, only two of the Churches have approved the funding for the communications project. I am working on the campgrounds next. I would prefer to keep the Illinois Churches networked separately as there are several changes in our security approach between Michigan and Illinois. I will contract the work out to my dealer for each site, and this is something that I have already discussed with him.

Relative to other Diocese, we are technically an Eparchy, and therefore, the geographical jurisdiction of our Diocese is the entire United States, east of the Mississippi river. Our Churches in Michigan are somewhat close to one another in Metro-Detroit, but are still spread out between several counties.

Thank you all for the replies. I look forward to updating this thread with our project as it continues to move along.

Since you're post count is below 10 you won't be able to start a PM so I'll send one over. I'm in the Diocese of Toledo so not too far from some of the churches you're in charge of. Definitely looking forward to hearing how this goes so I can get some ideas if I get the chance to set my soon-to-be-home parish up with a system since they have 1 main church with a school on the property and 1 downtown chapel for Traditional Latin Masses and a weekday confession and Mass.
