I have read that the R2 is the preferred one, for sensitivity? Ironically there are probably thousands of them sitting in desk drawers, closets, Go-Bags, glove boxes that some have forgotten they even have. Maybe try posing in the Classifieds/Wanted section here on RR?

I have an R2, R5, R6 plus R6 (red edition) and an IC-R3 (not part of the R2 line) which wasn't on the market long and is an interesting design.
I don't notice any difference in sensitivity between these iterations of Icom's IC-R2, which is very sensitive. The IC-R2 started off being a terrific little wideband receiver and Icom only improved the feature set with the later iterations.

Forgot to mention the Icom IC-Q7A, a handheld that has the same case as the IC-R2 with 350/300 mW output and was released around the same time. I haven't played around with my unit in a while and don't know if its receiver matches the R2's performance.

From the eham.net reviews it seems it probably does:
