• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

For simplicity, go for the "I Max 2000".It has no radials and also has something most others do not, gain. However, beware the Government rules cb. Just had to add that!!!

How much money are you willing to spend? What kind of restrictions do you have? Have you ever thought about making your own antenna if money is a concern? The answer to your question might be as simple as a 1/2 wave wire dipole, adjust the height you suspend it from to achieve your take off angle for DX. Just need a tall tree near your shack and a couple of pulleys for tweaking the height. No pictures available but just google 11m 1/2 Dipoles and you'll find tons out there. Have fun.

Right now the only thing bothering me is grounding. Like what they call the "Ground Plane" thing.

Right now the only thing bothering me is grounding. Like what they call the "Ground Plane" thing.

Rgr understand...Certain types of antenna's don't require a "Ground Plane" due to how they radiate and at which angle they radiate from...Basically your antenna radiates RF energy, your Ground Plane is like a mirror that reflects the RF energy from your antenna. Your Ground Plane is used to "help" direct the RF energy from your antenna in a certain direction determined by height of the antenna and distance from the Ground Plane. Not all Ground Planes have to be connected to the actual antenna...But should be at least a 1/4 wave length for the frequency being transmitted, but can be shorter if needed...I've taken a cb mag mount at home and attached it to a pizza pan and placed it on a wooden "A" frame ladder and got out just fine...Just think of the ground plane as the other side of the antenna, your SWR is effected by Ground Plane also so if you find your SWR levels off it could be you don't have a good ground plane amongst other things...Grounding is different than a ground plane, grounding is used to provide a path for electrical interference from your electrical devices to goto besides your radio...either in your home or car...Hope this helps some.
