I'm trying to figure the easiest and least expensive, way to mount my BC296 handheld in my car. I'm looking for simple and efficient, yet sturdy. Any ideas, please drop me a line. I'd also like for it to look good, Thanks

I use a Proclip mount in my vehicle (minivan) with a 246T Bearcat and it is a great
holder. Check out their website. Like Mike said it is on the Wiki page.

Ok I'm driving a 98 ford escort. I'm looking for something to hold a bc296 handheld. I've looked at a few mounts but I'd prefer one that didn't hang from the air vents. I don't need them to break under the weight.

Does the car have a center console between the seats? Are you willing to make modifications such as screwing a mount into the console or dash which will leave screw holes when removed?

I have had good luck with taking a piece of 2" wide steel 8 guage bar stock, bend it into shape, paint a nice color and screw it into the floor or transmission tunnel on the passengers side. Velcro on the mount and the back of your scanner and it won't go anywhere. The bar can even be bent so that the scanner faces you nicely, and by screwing it into the floor or transmission tunnel you will likely have no visible damage if you choose to remove it.

I used to have a 97 Escort wagon. I picked up a universal mount from Tessco. It was adjustable for various widths and heights. It has since been replaced by newer less expensive models. I used a couple self-tapping sheet metal screws and placed it on the passenger side of the hump. It was easily viewable for me and did not bother most passengers. Try this link for Tessco. They will sell to the public by phone or on line.
