Does anyone here know if there is someone providing an online scanner for Rutherfordton County? I have a friend who is an E911 dispatcher for the county and want to listen to their calls while we're talking online.

I'm in mississippi....

A little off topic, but they pronounce it "RUF-TON", believe it or not.

Also there are areas around there that are DRY, AKA no alcohol...

I got suckered into a blind date with a girl from RUF-TON. She was nice, but she was cross-eyed. My buddy that was with me (he was the one that suckered me) kept laughing his ass off.

The funniest part was when "Double Vision", the song by Foreigner came on the radio, he laughed like crazy. I had to wear sunglasses so she couldn't see my eyes. I would just look at her forehead.

His date wasn't much better as she was pretty "heavy". I had an AC/DC CD and he played "Whole Lotta Rosie". The girls LOVED it. That was his highlight to be able to play that song that talked about a fat girl and have them say that they loved it.

We got snowed in and had to spend the night. I had a blast because they were awesome girls to hang out with. I'll always remember that night/time.

I listen to Rutherford from my location in Greenville. Have never seen any listing for streaming audio for that area. As big an area as Greenville there is not but one site here and thats ClearChannel Radio. They stream audio and video of three [3] BC-796's to Charlotte. A reporter there watches the scanners and video of readout and does traffic reporting for their 5 radio stations in Greenville.

I have to agree with Larry - I'm not familiar with anyone streaming public safety audio for Rutherford County.

I can't even think of anyone on the regional scanning lists / forums who is from the county, although there is some ham activity.

Rutherford County is mostly rural, with a small number of public safety channels, which might add to the lack of hobby activity. I presume there are possibly many "closet" listeners who have a scanner in their homes, though.

A county sheriff was involved in a pursuit yesterday afternoon, about 2 p.m. The Rutherford Co officer was alone when he broke off the chase that reached 100 MPH. He terminated the pursuit well inside S.C., near Hwy 221 and 11 in Cherokee County. From his comments, it sounded like he knew who was driving the vehicle he was chasing.

Both Cherokee and Cleveland Co, N.C. officers were advised of the vehicle description.

That's about as exciting as it gets in Rutherford County.

jeff i know about that call, i was chatting with the sheriff's dispatcher WHILE she was actually working the chase. They also had a suicide, and a few days earlier a guy who had tried to kill his wife with a gun, their son ran to a neighbor's and dialed 911, she was the one who took the call. It sounds like some interesting stuff going on to me.

I'd just like to have the ability to listen to the traffic so I can keep up with what she's doing. I knew that it was mostly rural but still i'd listen.

I didn't think I'd find much luck but had to try anyhow.

I'll keep my ears open for anyone who might be streaming the audio. Possibly someone in an adjacent county (Polk, Burke, Cleveland) might be including Rutherford.

One aspect I like about the county is that the county sheriffs and county fire channels use multiple input tones to feed a single output frequency. You only have to listen to the one frequency / tone, to monitor traffic off all three repeater sites: Oakland, Biggerstaff and Lake Lure.

Back in the 60's, the county sheriff in Rutherford County was a real-life version of Andy Griffith's character in fictional Mayberry ... albeit maybe more physical.

The Rutherford County sheriff didn't carry a gun, but was well-known for using his fists to enforce the law. He passed away about a year ago, but he is still a legend. I imagine he'd have his hands full if he was still the sheriff, given the high unemployment rate in the county, and the younger residents moving away to live closer to jobs in Charlotte, Henderson Co, or the S.C. upstate.

I saw on your website, Nexus, that Winamp plans on incorporating alpha tages into its streaming audio of scanners. Any idea when that will begin ?

It's not winamp, its another streaming program that allows text id's in winamp. The software cost like 70 dollars, I can't afford it but eventually I'll be able to buy it. Until then I keep using the free shoutcast server.

you can go to www.scancapecod.net to see it in action there. It's pretty cool.

You have a banner running across nexusradio/us announcing:

Attention !!! Coming soon ... alpha tags via Winamp.

The Cape Cod and Boston sites, along with some others, use the Butel software (ARC780, ARC250) in conjunction with the windows media encoder. I believe it can also be done with Winscan 780.

One of the N.C. hams has his 780 running with ARC780 online, covering the Raleigh area.
