I currently own a Diamond D130J and am contemplating a DPD Air Omni. Has anyone in the forum have experience with either?

Currently the D130J is mounted in my attic about 25' to 30' above the ground.

I understand the shingled roof is hindering it a bit, but before I make the move to the outside I was curious about the difference in the antennas.

I feel the Air Omni would look cleaner versus the discone.

The DPD Air Omni is a tuned aeronautical band (118-137 MHz, 138-140 MHz and 225-400 MHz) antenna whereas the Diamond D130J Discone is a broadband (25 MHz to 1.3 GHz) antenna. What do you want to monitor?

Ha..forgot to add that part. Aviation, General and Military.

Milcomm can be all over the place and General can be from DC to light. Could you be more specific with actual systems so we can check what frequencies are being used? Right now, since you included General and Military in your response, I would have to say stick with the discone antenna.

A tuned antenna is better than a broadband antenna. Besides the specs say the DPD Air Omni has gain. Based on your frequency area of interest, the better choice then would be the DPD Air Omni.

That being said, I'll have to let others chime in that monitor that specific frequency range for antenna choices. Is that the best antenna choice? I do not know. I also do not have any experience with the DPD Air Omni. So let's give it a day since it is almost 1 AM EST on the East Coast to see if there are others with additional information.
