• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Pulled out my 6 channel Realistic CB radio from back in the 80’s. Works great but I’m missing channel 6 for shooting skip. Anyone know of a source for these?

There are several sellers on eBay for such things. Use the picclick.com website and search for "CB crystals" or "radio crystals" or "scanner crystals."

I have a pretty cool old crystal controlled Regency scanner and I saw the crystals on the bay. picclick is nice for many reasons; you can sort for lowest to highest price, US only, and you can see everything in one go and the pictures zoom in better to inspect the item being sold...

Okay, I looked on eBay and found none, though there was one seller with the RX and TX crystal but may not be the wattage.

I found this site: Quartz Crystals

And this site: US CB Radio Channel Crystal Frequencies | The Old Tube Radio Archives

TX: 27.025 RX: 26.570

At the electronic supply website, use control + F in your browser and search for those frequencies. I think you need the HC6-U type. If you have crystals already and a caliper measure them. The diagram is in millimeters.

Edit-

Okay, pulled out the old Realistic TRC-214 and measured a crystal with my caliper. It's an HC-25. The electronics supplier has the TX crystal in that format but the not RX crystal. That one may be on eBay. I have no idea what the wattage of these are though. You'd have to contact the electronics supplier. No idea if it makes a difference either.

Let me see if Digikey, Mouser or another electronics supplier has these.

Many thanks for your assistance. I’ll try & see if I can find a matching pair for my rig

Channel 6 is the Superbowl channel. Nothing but overpowered idiots talking over each other. You want to shoot skip?? Get a radio with SSB and go from there. Plenty of clear and legal frequencies to use.

sathunter, how do you plan on shooting skip ?
Just with an outdoor discone antenna. Reception only. No desire to transmit. The only channels I hear skip on are 6 and 19. I have a few ch 19 crystals. Just want to bring these antique radios back to life
