Wow. Had not thought of that!!! Thanks. I have 3 HT's and 3 hand held scanners. I found some upright picture frames that work really good but can't fine a supplier. The ones I have are fairly thick plastic and stand up really well with the scanner/HT on them . I only have found 2 , so I need 4 more. One of my small HT's fell over yesterday all the way off my desk. No problem with the HT. Thanks for the idea Arkmood.

Has anyone considered using the stands made for tablets?? Belkin makes one I bought for my girlfriends tablet and I tried it on several handheld radios and it worked great, since it has a weighted bottom!
I don't have a model # but Belkin should show it on their site. ;)

SurgePGH. You are from across the river from where I grew up. Vestaburg, actually it was Mexico (Coal Miner's Patch) around the holler from Vestaburg. Lived there till I was 15 and then moved to Low Hill. Was back up that way in October of last year for my oldest sister's funeral in Fredericktown.

I designed and built a few scanner/HT stands from wood. The drawing below shows the basic design. I rounded over the edges using a router which is not shown.

I have used those bookends for years now. I like the metal one's as I was able to bend it to an optimum angle for viewing. There's a slight springy response when pressing the buttons, but it works. The one thing I had to do was use one of those oversized binder clips to hold the base of the bookend to my desk to keep it from sliding. They're a perfect and inexpensive solution that works well for me.

I use it a little differently than Arkmood though. For me the base is still the base. The part that would be flush on the side of a book is what I bent back slightly in the direction of the long base piece. Using it this way I am able to hold two radios on each bookend stand with the clip that is typically found on the back of the radio. There's no stress on the radio clip really. It's just hanging there. I put the binder clip on the stubby part of the base to hold it.

Of course everyone's situation is different. For a couple of dollars how can you go wrong?

I learned about the bookends solution in the 1980's in an issue of MT (Monitoring Times).

It was one of those ideas where I slapped my forehead, saying "Why didn't I think of that?!"

My shipment should be in a few days. Had to buy 12 of them. That was their smallest order. Talked to my friends on 2 meters and they are interested in some of them, if they work out. My wouxon is on bookends. The wooden one would look nice in my shack, but alas my woodworking skills are two notches below bad and ugly!!!! Jimru, that's why I am almost bald!!!!!

Ranger, I'm a city boy, so my woodworking skills are pretty much non-existent!

Now that I live in a house (since this February, first time since 1966!), I would like to set up a modest workbench in the cellar. I'll still suck at woodwork, but the point is to have fun!

I used some scrap pieces of wood. Made it to hold my 5 scanners, attached a power bar and tilted the angle at about 60° for easy reading of the displays. Works very well for me and best part...free !

Good deal Path. But like Jimru, I can't build S!@#. The other side of it is that it has to look good. I share my computer/ham shack with the best half. She does not want anything that looks ugly in OUR room.

What if you put some velvet on the metal bookends, John? Sorta disguised them, somehow?

Don't be fooled by my woodworking skills...I have none ! Just a jigsaw and a rasp to smooth out the cuts. Looks more like the stand was built by Homer Simpson, kinda like the car he designed for his half brother Herb.

I use the following stand I got from ebay for $1.86 shipped no tax.. in fact I got 2.

and here is one of them on my BC250D and Pro-106.

BTW: Ebay has 2 sizes, make sure you get the 10" for Dual Scanner Stand.. otherwise get the 7" for Single Scanner.
