Greetings All -

I have a Unication G5 (Thanks mom and dad). I love the form factor and am able to get it working well on P25 systems. Highly recommend the radio (but remember its a pager, not a scanner.) The limitation for each knob position in analog monitoring/scan modes is 16 channels per knob. There are plenty of zones available to cover just about everything.

I am thinking about setting up a Zone for just doing fire monitoring. I am located pretty close to the dead center of the state and am able to monitor several counties. Santa Clara, Fresno, San Benito, Stanislaus, Tuolumne, Merced, Madera and Fresno just to name a few.

I'd like to pick the collective brains of everyone here on how they would set up a G5 for fire monitoring. Definitely open to suggestions and would like to get the most frequency bang for the buck.

Regards,

Remember you can scan only one (system) at a time on the G5, unlike a scanner

You will have much better luck in The Unication Forum as all Those Folks know their Stuff.

Most of the fire stuff around me is on the P-25 simulcast system (and dispatched on the same TG) but there are a couple of hold outs. Obviously you can't do both at the same time on the G5. Frankly I either use the 2nd G-5 when the mood strikes me to listen to those that aren't on the system, or I still have a BCD 536 and OLD Relm Scanner I switch the fire bank on.

We're lucky here that most the LE isn't encrypted (yet?) and my main interest is that but, as stated I still get probably 90% of the fire stuff on that same simulcast.

I have the fire stuff in both G-5s so if something comes up while out and about I can simply switch Zones and monitor those departments that have not switched yet.
