Hi everyone,

Got a question. My county re-transmits NOAA weather radio alerts on their public safety radio system. The radio the use to receive the alert is a little different then what I have heard before from a weather radio.

When the radio starts transmiting, You hear a beep and states the type of warning, watch or test. Then it makes a long tone and then it states the rest the rest of the message. It keys up about every 5 mintues and says (for example) "Tornado Warning" or what every type of warning it is until the warning is over then you hear "Tornado Warning Terminate."

Does anyone know what radio this might be? If not something similar without a siren or constant beeping to alert?

Could be a Motorola Alert Receiver set up on your local National Weather Service frequency with a tone of 1050Hz. I have one along with a Motorola Director pager that I carry with me.
