Hi kids! I am looking for a decent quality mobile that can be turned into a base station radio. Prefer it be in the VHF Range. If anyone has one that is in decent shape, not too beat up, still works, or even like an Icom V8000 radio that has been modified would work too. If you can help, please respond. I am looking to set up a short range radio network for my computer repair business. Thanks for your time!

I have looked in there, but what i have to offer in trade, most people dont use, because its something they arent sure about. Being a business partner, and a beta tester with Microsoft, you get freebie software all the time from them. And well when you already owned a copy of the software they sent to you, you really dont need two copies of one thing. So i was looking to trade this extra copy, for the ICV8000. But no one has a use for this software. :( Thanks thou for your comment!

Have you considered?

1) Getting a license

2) Using equipment aproved for commercial use

3) Going on Nextel, like most other businesses these days

Would that be the "Not for Distribution" kind of software?

From what i can tell, it is able to be sold, it does not say on the disk wither its a NFD or not. It is the hologram disk., not a burnt copy

The v8000 would be used for more than just my business, i would also use it for skywarn, our local ems service, etc. It will not be just amateur radio. I am working on my ham license and should have that by the end of march when the next class is available. I dont broadcast on amateur channels anyways, because a) no permit, b) no one is ever on there c) i dont have the time. Nextel does not offer great coverage here, it is very hit or miss, my family has nextel, and cant use their phones while they are at home. Commerical radios? Have you seen the prices?!?! I dont build computers for money, i do it for pleasure, so i would not have the 300-500 bucks for a unit, programming, install, etc. I already own a v8 ht, and it works wonders, gets out great, but there are spots where i just dont have enough juice to reach the towers.

From what I can tell, you need to read the license that comes on (or in) the package the disk came from!

1) You are not a ham yet, so on just what freuencies does you V8 get so well on?

2) A Ham radio is NOT type accepted for commercial bands! (Period)

Just because you do your "business" for fun, does not give you the right to use Amature frequencies to run your business, nor to use non-approved equipment on the commercial bands.

3) You need a license to opperate on the commercial bands.

Sorry to bust your bubble.

there is no reason to be rude, and microsoft sent it in a regular jewel case with the product key attached to the back. and i have read the license when i first got it, its the same one that was on the version i ALREADY own. It was sent to me in a beta test kit, now that the beta is done, i have no use for the software, since i already own it. its not like im asking money for it, im just looking to outright trade it, since that same disk to purchase at a store would cost 450-500$.

The channels i get out so well on are 155.9400, 151.8200, 155.3400, 155.3250, 154.2500. the 151.8200 channel is what i use, 2 watt murs channel. i never go over two watts, theres no need for me to.

As a Microsoft partner, I know that they send software out in many form and with different license requirments.

Sometimes they send "Retail" packages as freebies, but most of the software is either NFD or "Not For Retail Sale".

Since it came in a Beta-test kit, there is probably an overriding license that you (or your company) agreed to when they signed up for teh beta test.

Not trying to be rude, but since you seem to play loose and fast with FCC rules, I assumed you may do the same with the softeware licenses.

Maybe I am wrong??

What "Towers" are you hitting? MURS does not have repeters.

the towers i am hitting are our local towers, ems, fire, etc. and i have spoken to a few people that say that, you can use amateur radios, as long as they dont allow interferance, in the murs bands. so thats why i have a v-8. its been a great little radio, but sometimes it just doesnt pack enough punch behind itself to reach that last mile to the tower. and if i remember right, the agreement was, to never "sell" the software, but it didnt say i couldnt, give it away, or trade something for it. i dont want money, i was just looking to trade it was all. god i felt like i just got my head bit off and acid poured in the open wounds here, sheesh! anyways i have to head to a meeting, i will pick this up later tonight when i return, or you may email me offlist, at the email listed in my profile.
