looking @ getting a new antenna

i'm looking @ getting a new antenna for my home, but don;t know which kind is the right one for my area.
i live just outside the st. john's nl area and i'm currently using a Watson wsma 881 antenna on a 396xt.
i'm wondering if a discone(i think that's what it is called) would be good but not sure which one.
any help would be good.

I used a Scantenna for quite a while and it worked great for me on VHF-High band. I moved about a year and a half ago and haven't gotten the antenna back up. I plan to install it in my attic this time around but haven't found the time.

If you are wanting 800 MHz reception, you might need to look at a band specific antenna and some REALLY GOOD coax.
