Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Looking to replace a Base Station 40 channel AM / SSB with a Base Station 40 channel AM / FM / SSB and I see President makes what appears to be nice Mobile units - but I am seeking a base unit. Also looks like Galaxy offers a unit. Any recommendations?

Is the FM worth an upgrade? Will I notice a difference speaking with another user on the FM verses AM?

Go with the President, you will not be sorry. I have the McKinney AM/SSB radio and there is practically no drift on SSB. Besides in my opinion the only difference between a mobile and a base is that the base has a built in power supply.

The President George FCC adds the capability of CTCSS/DCS squelch control.

I was all set to buy the McKinley and now rethinking the George FCC. That coded squelch will be a help if you have family and friends to talk to on FM and want some degree of convenience, in respect that you wont be annoyed by all the jabber from other stations on the channel.

Looking for an FCC legal legit CB or is extra power and channels ok?

I want to stay legal with the transmitting - but if I can get extra channels / frequencies that I can receive with that would be fine.

What about the Galaxy 2547 base station ?

I was told some years ago (Not sure how true) that it's best to purchase the unit that fits what you need. In my case the Base Station I have can go both mobile or home came with 2 separate power connectors.

I read about the CTCSS/DCS but not sure if that makes sense for the additional $ 50.

I didn't see the George FCC on Amazon - but I did read if I purchase the President and a President antenna I get a 5 year warranty. Not sure if that applies to anyone seller or only Amazon - but the items must be purchased at the same time.

That is a deal they have offered for a while. You might contact President directly, they are in Naples Florida, and ask how to make sure you get the deal. You might spring for the 5yr warranty deal with cheapest President antenna and then install a Larsen NMO27. (or a base antenna) They will not care.

Find a used Robyn SX 10 module and boost the power supply to around 7a. Then you can use several different radios with it to create a very nice base. I did it with a Superstar, Galaxy, Ranger 3500( my favorite) and a 2950. All any solid state base is, is nothing more than a mobile radio and a power supply put into a fancy cabinet

I am not the brightest bulb in the shed with this stuff - so when you say module is that a power converter that I can change the AMPs or is the Module connect to the power converter that changes the AMPs for me?

The Robyn SX 10 module is a wooden cabinet with a power supply built in and an open slot to slide a standard size mobile radio into to make a base station. The SX 10 was the model without a clock. If I remember right the model that had the built in clock was the SX 12

This is a pic of the SX 12 with the clock. The 10 was exactly the same without the clock

No, they are not made anymore but you would be surprised how often they pop up on the used market. Sometimes still in the original box. There is a nice 12 on a popular auction site right now. They were built well and many have survived in surprisingly good condition

Thanks I'll take a look at the only auction site I know that offers almost everything.

The original power supply was rated around 3a. adequate for a four watt CB, not for a pseudo 10m/CB. However it is easy to upgrade to around 7a. Enough to handle a 35 watt Ranger
