• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi Moto Gurus,

I often see eBay listings for XTS units with FPP in which the seller says that if you program the radio with CPS later than version X.XX, FPP will be lost. How and why would this happen?

Thanks!!

Lost FPP

I programmed a Motorola 2500i with CPS 11. The radio had FPP on it, but lost it. Even when it's "lost", the radio STILL requires 15 zones with 16 channels each. No more, no less. I am in the process of getting rid of that piece of junk radio.

If the radio only has Q52, which is the Federal FPP only and doesn't require a dongle, it will go away with the later CPS versions. The radio must have both Q52 and Q53 in it to retain the feature using the later version CPS.

I believe a radio with Q53, that is the FCC version and does require a dongle, is unaffected by the CPS version.

Thanks - I had the same question as well

I've seen some of the new VHF FPP 5000's on eBay that state that they are using the v11 HOST & DSP. If I remember correctly, that requires a minimum of CPS 11 to program.

They are advertised as having Q52 & Q53 - so as the guys above have said, you get hard-limited to the 16x15 memory layout (512 channels max).

There should be no reason you'd want to go above Host/DSP 9.x in your radio, using CPS 9.x.

CPS 12 offers 1000 channels (with the corresponding host/dsp match), but that's about it.
