I grew up in Los Altos but have been away from California for 15 years (moved to Colorado). I'm back
on the peninsula for a while and have entered 483.0625 into my scanner to receive LAPD. I haven't
heard a single transmission.

And I also wanted to confirm - has Los Altos Fire been taken over by the County and is "Control 8"
their frequency?

Thanks for any insight you can offer.

County Fire handles Fire service in Los Altos and Los Altos Hills. They dispatch on 154.2500, when there is an incident of consequence they move responding units to one of the Command channels, Command 1, 2, 8, 13 or maybe 17 (although since the Saratoga merge in July I haven't heard them use Command 17) - For Los Altos it would normally be Command 2 or Command 8

I don't normally listen to Police but I have faith in what is in the database, the rest of what's listed for Santa Clara is right, I'm sure the Police listing is right too - I get the Police listings close to me easily enough

Your information is correct. Los Altos PD is pretty quiet.

Los Altos Hill has contracted out to Sheriff's Department for patrol services.

483.0625 is active. PL 136.5. Maybe you have a different PL? Or just try a different location. Their signal is not that strong outside of Los Altos / Mountain View.

They have serious downtilt on their antennas now.

Not much of an RF footprint outside of the city.

The T-band frequency is valid for City of Los Altos PD. They don't talk much.

County fire took over a while back. ALS Rescue, Truck 14, and Brush 14 are in the newish station at foothill college, they staff the rescue and staff the brush truck during red flag days. Station 15 is on almond (the old los altos fire). Welcome back.

Everyone,

Thanks for the information on Los Altos. I'll make it a point to go sit in a coffee shop or
something in Los Altos and see if I can hear them.

I did hear a call about a loose reflector in the road.

Exciting stuff.

This thread got me to thinking about when I first started "scanning" more than 40 years ago. Anyone remember when Los Altos was KCV 356 on 154.74? The first radio I had was a Knight KG221. Sensitivity was lacking, anything 150kc on either side of what you were trying to listen to came in too. You want to scan? Turn the tuning dial. All this with an outside antenna. I should have listened to the guy at the TV store downtown and bought one of the fixed tuned Sonar radios he was selling for $120 plus crystals at five bucks each. If I remember correctly, the police dispatcher also dispatched the fire trucks on 154.400 Sounds like things have slowed down for the old hometown PD. They must be using MDTS nowadays. Back in those days, I think there were 4 or 5 calls an hour. There were also a fair number of all points bulletins from a county dispatcher who id'ed as Control 7. Mountain View and Stanford University also shared the same channel.

Brought the scanner into work (I work in Sunnyvale) and heard plenty of transmissions loud and clear from Los Altos PD. Very boring stuff. No surprise - it's a pretty quiet, upscale town and they sure like to keep it that way.
