Although the ARC500 software never worked for me on my old WIN7 computer, I just got a new comp and I am curious as to if the software would work on this WIN10 platform. Problem is, I cannot find the CD with my Registration Key anywhere. I am wondering if the fine people at Butel will see this post and inform me of how I can retrieve said lost key. You can access my callsign info for name, etc. I bought your software from Scannermaster last summer. They cannot help me and said that my info is in your registration files.

In the meantime, I will continue to rummage through the radio room....

Surely would be appreciated - thanks

Never expect any manufacturer to rummage through every Internet forum to help you out. Go straight to the source which KevinC happened to help you out with.

Most ARC products will print a sheet with the product key when entered to the default printer. If your computer is set up to generate PDF's as the default printer you may have the product key there (if you still have access to the old computer).

If your computer was set with an actual printer then see if you saved that sheet.

I actually found the CD with the key in the jewel case. But, alas, same old same old. I enter the key and it won't take, as it would not when I first bought it when I had my old WIN7 Dell. Every time it starts up it flashes a message 'Time Restricted Demo'...no matter how many times I enter the key. It will not communicate with my scanner. All Butel ever will tell me is 'reload the drivers, reload the drivers!'..there is nothing for it. I will put it back where I found it and consider myself taken. Maybe, if I am lucky, it might get lost again.lol

It's bad enough to lose everything in a total computer crash, and then have to relive this experience with Butel ...Ugh.

When I got my new comp, ProScan did not charge for a lost key.Just sayin...

check the key very carefully , if possible copy and paste . its easy to mistake a 0 (Zero) for an O . ect ...
Also I have had issues with pop up blockers stopping the key registration process in the past.

Yes, thanks for the suggestions. I have tried all combinations, with dashes and without, 0 for o and vice versa. it's typed inside the CD case on a piece of tape it looks like, in very small print, so I even checked with a powerful magnifying glass lamp to make sure I got it right. All other ARC products have worked fine for me, I don't get it. I have bought new versions every time I upgraded to a different scanner, at least six or seven times over the years. Nada.

Has anyone else had issues with ARC500 and the WS-1065 scanner?

Are you sure thats the right key for the right program, since you have multiple Butel programs?

He brings up a great point. Make sure that you are also using the version you paid for. A key for the Basic version will not work for the Pro version and vice versa.

Yes, I am sure it's the correct program. Brand new Dell 3668 running WIN10 with no previous versions on it. When I found the CD I installed it from the actual disc and entered the key info on the inside of the disc. There were no mistakes. Finally the program registered (after entering dashes in 2nd key) but the same problem exists as before - no virtual scanner readout.

The buttons work, i.e., I can dim and turn the light off and on and the scanner responds, but I have never been able to get the virtual scanner to work. That is hands down the main reason I bought the PRO version, because I liked the large GUI.

I have seen a post or two from other folks here advising they had (have) the same problem and I am wondering if they ever got it resolved.

Still fiddling with it....73

*I should clarify - there were 'no mistakes' as to the correct program and the key for it. I DID make the mistake of not entering the dashes on the 2nd key attempting to register the software, and when I was advised to do so here on this thread I had instant deja vu - I did the exact same thing when trying to register it when I first bought it last year.

And, as I stated before, same exact problem. No virtual interface.

I just tried it on my Win 10 machine. it works fine here.

Try downloading the radio first, this allows you to set the com port. If it downloads properly then try the Virtual Control again. There doesn't seem to be a way to set the com port otherwise...

Yes, it downloads the radio, no problem. I can program it, upload to scanner, download from scanner, save the V-scanner folders and load from them, all of that no problem. The buttons even work - scan, dim light, lockout, etc. Just no virtual download. I am missing something here. Hoping someone will pop in and say oh, make sure this or that is clicked and I'll go - duh - why didn't I think of that? Was also hoping someone at Butel would notice the thread and think of something other than 'reload the drivers'.

*ack*

still fiddling with it.....thanks

You do have the PRO version, right? (Virtual Control does not work with the Basic version.)

The version number should be v1.30. Make sure you have the latest version.

The only other thing I can think of is the cable, if you are using the blue, black or orange USB cable you should be OK but if you have a different cable available try that one. Also try updating the driver.

If you still have one of those old serial port cables from the PRO95 days they probably won't work.
