They are mostly encrypted, especially law enforcement. Some encryption on fire units, but dispatch is clear on fire talkgroups. You will sometimes hear law enforcement in the clear, but not that often.

I just purchased a Whisler TRX-1 and am trying to get it going...Getting a Big E on some of Lenoir City traffic.

What did you buy? TACN still carrys quite the traffic and there are other systems in the area.

I can't remember if the TRX-1 does NXDN or DMR but Land Air in Sevier County could be interesting to listen to.

LCSO and LCPD are mostly encrypted. Sometimes I hear some in the clear, but not often. Lenoir City Fire, Tellico Village Fire, are both on TACN and are mostly in the clear. Loudon PD and FD are DMR but are clear. EMS, County Fire and Greenback Fire are analog UHF and clear. THP, Blount, Roane are all on TACN and mostly in the clear.
