First, my prayers are with you all who have been on Katrina's hit list.

I wish you the best possible.

Looking forward to hearing how the statewide 800 made it during the storm. Hopefully folks will learn from Louisiana's experience in hardening other systems.

Again........take care and good luck in your recovery efforts.

Sincerely,
Julian

I was going to ask how some of these networks held up - I'm assuming the NOLA EDACS system is still OK?

Can anyone, especially in Baton Rouge, get a feed up of the State system. I suspect most talkgroups related to the hurricane will be rebroadcast on the Baton Rouge site due to the state command center being located there. I suspect that NG and LSP operations are fairly significant....

I read a message at another site that NOLA PD had lost all communications. Which probably means that the system failed and all city agencies lost communications as well. The source was Fox News, but I don't see anything on their web site about it.

with the level of flooding all of NOLA's transmitters may be under water. Water is still coming in, and on Tuesday morning they were telling the disaster workers to evacuate. Just think how much worse it had been if the wind had been 160 MPH when it got to New Orleans.

MSNBC reported earlier this afternoon that "...police and fire radios have long been out..." - speaking of New Orleans police and fire.

A short time ago, an MSNBC reporter whom apparently spoke with a "senior police official" stated that the police and fire radios are not working well, not to mention that they are finding it difficult to charge their portable radios without any power........

Hello All,
I suspect everyone is conventional simplex only...assuming they had that programmed into their radios.

NOLA Systems

I was in New Orleans on Tuesday and Wednesday doing water rescue. New Orleans Police and Fire Radio systems were competely down. Amazingly though, the I-TAC repeaters were up and running. New Orleans Police are operating on ITAC 1 and 2 in repeater mode. The radio traffic is horrendous with everyone trying to talk at once. They split Eastbank on ITAC1 and Westbank on ITAC2.

I believe the ITACS are managed by the State PD - and many of their sites are up....
