Had a couple of quick questions. Going to be in the area over the next few weeks and was curious for those that use a 436HP or Pro 668 does one do better than the other in the area? I have both, and may bring them both.

Is there much DMR (or ANY Provoice). I have looked through the database, didn't see a lot listed. I know that doesn't rule out unknowns though. Would like to test the DMR out in a larger city than my hometown.

Is there much Federal listening? I see a lot listed, was curious if any agencies seem to have more traffic than others. Just to speed up my searches. I am considering creating a separate playlist.

And if any of the scanners in my sig. line do better on the local systems I could throw them in the bag also. Just trying to get the most listening I can for the amount of time I will have. Thanks for any tips, Mike

The 436 performs better on the MetroSafe simulcast system than the 396XT - simulcast distortion is a bear in many places around here. Can't comment on the Pro 668.

No DMR and ProVoice I am aware of for "government" systems.

Most Federal stuff is encrypted. While I have it programmed, I never listen to it because of encryption.

Yes the 436 is better, but the 396XT is OK if you have your settings tweaked and optomized. And yes, very little of the Federal stuff there is in the clear.

Thanks ofd8001, and milf, used the 396 a couple of years ago when visiting, performed pretty well then. Still one of my all time favorite scanners. I will pack the 436 for sure then , and bring the 668 just for a little competition. See how they do against each other. Good to know on the encryption also. I have the agencies in play lists that I'm interested in. Thanks again Mike

Nothing much has changed recently in Louisville scanning. Shelby County (just east) has migrated some law enforcement to P25 (same frequencies). Hardin County fire has added some frequencies. All in the database.
