• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am a lineman for the county.
Has anyone got one that goes to 54 Mhz 6 Meter ??

Not that I've heard, but I'm sure it's been done. A lot of the guys at Kenwood are hams, and I'm sure one of them massaged the firmware to allow it.

I suppose the California Highway Patrol is the primary customer for this model since they have channels from 39 up to the 45 MHz range I believe.

Kenwood/EFJ specifically built it for California Highway Patrol. If CHP hadn't bought it, the low band deck would have been killed off. Luckily CHP bought a few thousand of them.

There are a lot of low band repeaters on Ebay:

I only see this Midland (possibly more than one available) when you filter out the manuals and other unrelated stuff. I'm also ignoring the CDM750, which I doubt can be considered, and the one from the UK that is "presumed non-working". I don't know what all the other stuff is doing there. eBay sucks.

I apologize for that. I was ready to take a snooze and I did a quick Ebay search and thought the results would have been better than that. I didn't take time to read through it all. Normally I don't look at low band gear but I recall seeing a fair amount from time to time. Maybe most of it has been sold off and replaced.

I remember talking with the low band repeater guys at IWCE 3 or 4 shows ago but can't remember their company name. I emailed my IWCE contact to see if they had old booth vendor lists but since Stacey moved out of running IWCE it's been a bit hectic with Informa.
