While being parked at the Claremore gate QT . Had a trooper unit # 658 park a few spaces over and noticed the SUV had a low band antenna on the roof . I thought low band was taken out of service ?

I can confirm this, there is traffic on 44.7 at this very moment in Guthrie. It is all car to car now days. I haven't heard a base station for quite some time.

Low band is slowly being phased out but necessarily "taken out of service". The state will likely retain the licensing and the units that have the radios can use them but when the radio needs repaired or replaced is when it will likely will be phased out. So yes there are plenty of units across the state that still have and use it and there are many that don't have it at all. The back bone of the new 700mhz repeaters, the wave app, and various other newer technology is now widely used as an alternative to low band.

Low band is sometimes necessary in terrain issues.

In the woods up north, between the pine trees and terrain, UHF and HB VHF is worthless.

If we had a true, statewide network like they do in Arkansas or Missouri, (read that as “hills”) they probably wouldn't need it.

OK is broke AF lol
Our agency is actually trying to use OMACS when we switch. We do not like the coverage of OKWIN for the areas we cover.
