New to scanning and I am looking to listen in to my local fire department (Bradford, Ontario) which uses DMR radio. Does anyone have any recommendations for a cheap scanner that I can use to listen in (it doesn’t need to actually scan, just listen in to this one channel). I saw someone list on Kijiji selling a DMR Baofeng (ham radio) with the claim that it picks up Bradford FD but it sold before I could contact them. Can anyone point me towards the right model(s) that will do this?

Also how do I know if they are using DMR tier 1, 2, or 3?

Take a look at the TYT/Retevis/Radio Oddity offerings. They work great for this kind of thing and can usually be had for less than $100. I bought some TYT-UV380s (dual band) back in November for about $95 each I think.
