Don't laugh.
Once, on a weekly shopping trip (I usually sit in the car scanning while the wife goes into the mall), I had forgotten my duckie.
I went into the Penney store and asked the clerk for a paper clip. She obliged me with one of the larger variety.
Now, there is a large paper clip attached to my 'scanner bag', just in case.
