The 72 MHz freqs are for wireless information systems, usually for the synchronization of time clocks.

Just because an agency has a TG on MPSCS doesn't mean they have abandoned their existing, more cost effective, more reliabile stuff. Perfect example: LSSU.

brent30,
Just for fun, why don't you program your radio for MDC signaling, say with your employee number.

BigBlue,
Since LSSU is an agency that exclusivelly uses portables (and in buildings) their own on-site repeaters are MUCH more reliabile and have far superior coverage on campus. They also have radio needs that cannot easilly be solved with the MPSCS. Bottom line, there is no good reason to use the MPSCS on LSSU campus, other than "it's the new cool thing"

You should have seen the look of horror on the Motorola guy's face when he saw the digital radios fail in action.

I was just going to say a system is as only good as it's hardware, software and techs that run and support it.

Our problem with our old campus buildings which most of which were old bomb shelters and range 30-65 feet below ground was no reception with anything of any sort.

We thought about a bidirectional amplifier but when the County put a simulcast tower 5 blocks away looking down our throat literally and that completely solved all of our testing issues.

Now not everyone can have that ability to be that lucky but amps are a good way to go but they run about $10,000 a piece and $4,000 in labor and coax. Pricey yes I know.

Did you help with the setup of the system? If so when was it installed?......, just out of curiosity

Not installed on campus yet all we are going to use are prep (portables) and some mobiles. We had radios then the school sold them and blah blah all the political bs that comes with schools.

I was in on the initial walkthrough since I know the buildings better then anyone else and since I spend quite a bit of time in the basements, crawlspaces and such on inspections and such.

The local tower the county put up is in place and has been active since jan 2nd of this year.

Yeah, I knew the county put up the tower earlier this year. I just wasn't sure of the new system for lake state. Do you think lssu will go completely digital? I would imagine they would keep public works such as maintenance and food service just analog because of the cost of going digital. I know the full time Public Safety Officers have radios to call central dispatch and talk to the PD, so that would have to be digital, but as far as LSSU officer to LSSU officer goes it still conventional analog.

brent30, I don't think he's talking about LSSU.

There is a slight chance of LSSU PSD going digital, but not on MPSCS. The existing system has been around for a long time, with some major upgrades in the last year or so. More improvements may or may not be in the works...
