• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a new Uniden BCD 396T, which supposedly will monitor LTR systems... and I have zero experience with LTR systems...

I programmed the system for ALabama/Houston County/ Dothan Public safety,
according to the info here:
http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=976

I sat on this system for about 45 minutes, in ID Search, and did not hear a single peep. So either I did something wrong, OR in some way this LTR system cannot be monitored by the 396T.

But I am not smart enough to know if I am wasting my time on this system.. can someone clarify what's what for me?

thanks

The key is having the channels programmed in the proper "LCN" order, and as an LTR system. That is, each frequency needs to be programmed in the assigned slot, for example:

LCN #1 155.100
LCN #2 155.150
LCN #3 155.175
LCN #4 155.200

You might not be hearing anything because the users might not be using that system, the scanner isn't programmed correctly, or the LCN shown on the Radio Reference pages isn't in the correct order.

Try just entering the frequencies as normal channels and scanning them. See if you hear any radio traffic -- if you do, then you know your scanner isn't programmed right or the LCN order is wrong.

If you don't hear any radio traffic, then you know the system isn't really being used much. I'm an LTR newbie myself and it took me a while to figure it out, with the great help of others on the forum.

Good luck!

According to this thread it's LTR Multinet and not monitorable with any scanner.

What is about "multinet" that means you cannot monitor it? The voice was listed as Analog, so I figured I was good to go.

Still learnin'

Don't know ! I'm still learning myself. :)

In that thread, Julian1 provides an interesting description of what it's like to try to scan the system in conventional mode. Maybe someone else can give you some specifics of why that's different than LTR systems that can be tracked.

Your master site
Standard LTR (and LTR-Net) and Multi-Net use subaudible data mixed with the voice channel; MultiNet also uses a subaudible dedicated control channel. But that's where the similarity ends. The structure of the data used to assign channels and all other commands is completly different so looking for standard LTR trunking data to trunk with won't work.
