LTR Question

how do I determine if a LTR system is Passport or not?? I just noticed a new Liscence was issued in my area for a trunk system and because of the frequencies I am 99.9% sure it is LTR but I have heard only one transmission on it in like three weeks or so. Can anyone help me out here.

Just going by what I've seen with Trident controllers, others might be different. Regular LTR controller keys the repeaters every 10 seconds to give a 'ready' indication to the field radios. All repeaters appear to be sychronized and transmit the 'ready' at the same time...Passport controller keys repeaters every 3 seconds (by default, it can be changed) and the repeaters do not appear to be synchronized. You should also hear more 'data' sounds with Passport, as it does stuff like ESN & ID validations, and affiliations.

The givaway is almost always in the key ups. Passport in my area is 1.5-3 seconds apart except on channels shared with regular LTR. I use the LTRTrunk and LTRDump programs which gives you all the info.

The regular LTR systems around me do not sync the key ups. Passport info is sent subaudibly and and other tones or data that you hear is likely a user and not the system.

I hear the repeaters key up every once in a while but its like not really consistant. though but I do hear mic key ups.

have you done a FCC search and tried to see if any systems have already been figured out?

Perhaps posting a freq and appx location will help

yeah thats how I found out it was a system and it is the Evansville, IN State hospital Already posted in RR Database by Scanner_Freak when I gave him the info I had.

A choice

Although very risky, you might call the two way radio installers for your area and ask if that co. did the installation and is it a "regular" LTR system or Passport LTR. The tech may or may not tell you but it's worth a try.
