The Robesonian is reporting the following:

LUMBERTON — The man who shot and killed Lumberton police officer Jeremiah Goodson this morning is in custody, according to Lumberton police Capt. Johnny Barnes.
Goodson, who was off-duty, was shot at about 11 a.m. while serving a warrant for the man’s arrest. Goodson was struck more than once, but no one else was injured, Barnes said.
At 2 p.m. today, Barnes was not ready to release the name of the person suspected of killing Goodson.
Goodson had arrived at the Shell station at 5030 Fayetteville Road when he recognized the man, who was sitting in a vehicle, Barnes said. He called the Police department, and another officer came to assist in the arrest. As the two officers approached the man’s vehicle, the gunman opened fire, striking Goodson more than once, Barnes said.
The assisting officer held the man at gunpoint, and he was taken into custody, Barnes said.

I just got the notification from ODMP.org. RIP Officer Goodson.

"Master Police Officer Jeremiah Goodson was shot and killed as he and another officer attempted to arrest a homicide suspect at a local gas station in the 5000 block of Fayetteville Road.

Officer Goodson, who was off duty, was at the gas station and recognized the subject as being wanted for homicide. He called the police department and notified other officers of the subject's location. Another officer arrived and the two began to approach the car the subject was sitting in. The man opened fire from inside the vehicle, striking Officer Goodson in the chest. The second officer and other responding units took the man into custody.

Officer Goodson had served with the Lumberton Police Department for six years. He is survived by his expectant wife and one child."
