Maybe the mods should make a LVMPD Update sticky thread so useless new threads can be avoided? I've reported the post with a note to that effect.

Right... because the NV forum gets so much activity... You're not even from the area in question, why add your .02?

Tell you what... report me for telling you that you have no life and nothing better to do...

I posted the message before actually watching the video...

Go take your meds... its after 4pm and close to your bedtime...

Interesting. I don't understand why everyone is so bent on spending so much money on trunked systems. Two of the biggest agencies in the country, NYPD and LAPD are still both conventional.

I totally agree... Metro complained that they were 'out' of freqs in the VHF band for future expansion. What they failed to mention was the stockpile of 'mutual aid' freqs that have never been used... They could have stayed conventional...

If must know, I actually am from there. Grew up and went to school in Henderson. I visit the area maybe 6 times a year for a week or two at a time. Additionally, as I started my scanning hobby there nearly 20 years ago I have more than a little passing interest on the matter.

No matter the topic, multiple threads on the same subject is annoying at best, and counterproductive at worst. We've had great success with the sticky thread for the new system in my current location and was simply trying to help you out.

You'd do yourself a favor (and everyone else) if you were to review links before you post.

Finally, med time is at 5am but I appreciate your concern.

In the desert someplace
So what will they use in the meantime? The article says won't have a contract to review until January or February then who knows how long it'll take until the new system is in place. Are they still using OpenSky or is it being patched through to the old VHF channels? And hopefully they won't decide on P25 Phase II.

Over the turkey day weekend they used simplex for the dui checkpoints as well as big accidents... I'm sure they're now using simplex whenever there's a big call out...

Well, I guess their only options now would be either to go conventional simulcast p25 with the freqs and repeaters they have in place already- I think that's the best option.. Or just go conventional simulcast analog and not have to deal with the digital sounding part of it..

Ah nevermind, I forgot its 700MHz.. my bad.. (I was gonna say they should just use the nevada shared system until they could get something else in place. -Not sure if their radios can go into the higher 800 band though. Or if they even had that programmed in the first place..)

If they go conventional, then they can't meet the narrowband requirement.

Now could LV Metro, or LV in general, get a waiver so that they don't have to narrowband? It isn't like they couldn't frequency manage what amounts to a basin city.

I really never understood this narrowbanding requirement. While wasting spectrum is bad, wasting money is worse.

Oh I meant they should stay on 700MHz since that's what their equipment is, and then just turn things into conventional. Pretty sure 700 is 6.25kHz so that's way better than the requirement calls for.

I would think it would be easiest as a temporary fix to jump back onto the old freq's if they still have the radios and licensing until a permanent solution is found.

Unless the VHF stuff has been narrowbanded which I dont think happened because the open scam was suppposed to take its place. If its not they dont get a waiver in the next month they are operating illegally after Jan 1

Only the same things that they kept up the whole time- 1 & 9, which I have as info and admin, respectively.

None of the area commands have any traffic on the old VHF.
